Benefits of relaxation

Relaxation is our speciality and usually involves a Massage

Primarily people book a massage to relax but is it purely indulgent? Perhaps not as increases in anxiety related absenteeism and mental health issues are reported. So much information is thrust at us from emails, social media, not to mention the world news, recently very dramatic. Not much wonder can we feel stress or at least the need to switch off and relax. Often in everyday life this is hard to fit in around  commitments of work, family, commuting, even exercising.

At the Principal Hotel I find guests easily prioritise treatments and can totally relax away from the usual environment and able to switch off more easily. This got me thinking how can I make treatments more accessible for everyday life? The main thing is to focus on the benefits for your mental and physical health that are not as fleeting as you may first assume.

Personally I find the Heavenly Head Massage most relaxing

Head Massage has been practiced in India for over a thousand years but was restricted to the head and hair for many years and now because of the benefits it now encompasses the neck, shoulders and upper arms. Indian Head massage is a safe, simple yet very effective therapy that not only promotes hair growth, but also provides relief from aches and pains. Head Massage helps increase mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders. It improves blood circulation, lymphatic flow and aids elimination of toxins and is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension.

The head neck and shoulders are very important energy centres within your body. If you are feeling stressed or angry, tension tends to accumulate here. This tension can later show up as a stiff neck and shoulders, eyestrain and sometimes even hair loss. Head massage involves working with a firm gentle rhythm to help un-knot blockages and release this uncomfortable build- up of tension.

How does Heavenly Head Massage treatment work?

The aim is to release the stress accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. Heavenly Head Massage works with a holistic concept that places emphasis on balance of the energy centres to bring the whole body back into equilibrium. Involves massage and pressure point techniques, manipulating the soft tissues on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. The effect is not just physical: it works on an emotional level too, calming the mind, promoting relaxation and relieving stress. It can relieve eyestrain, improve concentration, eliminates muscular tension and restores joint movement. Lots of client’s remark on their headache or migraine disappearing! Massaging the head encourages the supply of oxygen to the brain, which is one of the best ways of reducing stress. Oxygen helps you think clearly and creatively, the same effect is brought about through exercising.

Head Massage attacks stress in an immediate way by accessing the physical effects. It also aids better relaxation and sleep, the lack of which is often a strong component in stress related illness. The relaxation opposes the stress response and helps lessen the vicious circle of hormones responsible for many stress symptoms.

What Conditions can a Head Massage help with?

Tension Headaches, Migraines, Tinnitus and other ear problems, Thinning hair and hair loss,

Muscle tension – neck, shoulder stiffness, eye strain, insomnia

Most of all it is about valuing yourself enough to take time out to let our mind, body and soul be revitalised. Then YOU can be the best YOU. More efficient, patient, kinder with more energy!
